Secret Of Milk

Here's a way to get your gallon of milk to last much longer.  If your milk ever goes bad, this is for you.  If it doesn't, you probably don't need to worry about this.

  1. Before removing the cap, tip the container until the level of the milk is almost to the opening.
  2. Remove the cap
  3. Pour. Do not bring the jug back to vertical after done pouring.  Tilt it back up just enough to stop the flow.
  4. Put on cap.
  5. Done.

By reducing the vertical exposure of the opening and the amount of time the cap is off, you keep bacteria from entering the jug as easily.  That keeps the milk fresher.  At least that's what I'm led to believe.  I just know it works.

Using this technique, I've gotten a gallon of milk to go two weeks past the expiration date on the jug.  And it's not like I enjoy spoiled milk, either!

P.S. Make sure you put your milk right back into the fridge, too.  Keeping it at the right temperature also extends its life.
